Ken inspires creative thinking and writing while reinforcing curriculum & stimulating imaginative thinking.
How can we get people interested in our topic? What unique perspective can we offer? Will our song be informative or just wildly imaginative? Or - can it be both?!? What mood or tone should our song have? What rhythm, pace or style? Why?
These questions are always part of the brainstorming process in Ken's residencies. Sometimes classes write songs about what they're studying, or whatever they agree to explore together. Sometimes an entire school cooperates on adapting a favorite story into a musical tale, with each grade responsible for writing a song or songs that fit into important parts of the story.
History, Social Studies, even Science & Math can yield surprisingly memorable songs!
"You made a real impact on our students, teachers and parents, on many different levels...
a positive difference in the lives of the people here at Franklin.
I feel that is no small feat."
~ Alan Fuller, Franklin Elementary, Fond Du Lac, WI
"What you accomplished with our students was amazing!"

"You are a genius! The whole residency was wildly successful - I knew it would be! Students (and Teachers, too!) are still buzzing with excitement over the songs they created
with you. Thank you!"

"Ken established a wonderful rapport with students and maintained excellent discipline in each class. Both administration and faculty were impressed with how he kept each class on task and used the creative process of song writing to enhance the subjects being studied in class.
Learning in academic areas was definitely enhanced by his cross-curricular approach.
Any school who retains Ken for either a residency or an assembly will not be disappointed. I recommend him most highly and without any reservations whatsoever."
~ Karen Bures, General Music Instructor, Wisc. Rapids, WI
"I’ve only been motivated to have a residency if I’ve seen an artist who can truly connect with the age of the students I’m currently teaching, and is… the BEST! You’re an extremely talented songwriter, musician and singer who gave us all a great experience!"
~ Maywood School,

~ Principal, Kenwood School, Minneapolis, MN
"Thank you for all the time and effort you put forth bringing “The Search For Flutterby” to life. Your efforts not only helped teach McKinley Elementary students about South American culture, you also brought them into the world of song writing and theater. Your efforts helped to join all members of the staff and student body in a joint effort to showcase our curriculum and talents to the McKinley parents and community. Writing original songs, to be included in an original musical, performed by your troupe, students and staff is an experience the children will never forget.
This has been one of the few times in my career that parents have called and written personal notes of thanks for providing their children such a wonderful experience. “The Search For Flutterby” was a theatrical hit!
Thank you for the professional manner in which you and your troupe interacted with the students, staff and parents. From the first moments the students met you, your good humor and musical talent drew them in. Thank you for taking on the challenge of writing songs about what appeared on the surface to be unrelated topics and weaving them into a cohesive play. Thanks also for coming to Appleton for an extra day, at no additional cost, to plan with us.
The success of the production is a testament to your skills. If I can ever be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to use my name as a reference. I hope we will be able to utilize your talents again in the future. Sincerely,"
~ Katherine M. Crowley, Principal
